DOMO!
Dominique "DOMO" Blackman pays LODED a visit today bearing news of his decision to attend Washington.
One of the standouts at the US Army Combine for juniors. Blackman finished his 2006 junior campaign completing 123 of 215 pass attempts for 1,673 yards, 14 TDs and seven interceptions. He also rushed for eight scores. A second-team All-City selection, he figures to be one of the top prospects in Southern California for the class of 2008; He benches 255 pounds, squats 515 and has an impressive 40-inch vertical jump.
Blackman reports a 3.8 core GPA and an 1140 SAT and says he may try to graduate early.
Evaluation
Blackman is an impressive, powerful pocket passer with prototypical size and excellent arm strength. He reminds us of a left-handed Dante Culpepper only Blackman is taller and displays more polish as a passer. He has a lightning quick release and it is refreshing to see a left-hander with an over-the-top throwing motion and no sidearm delivery. Gets set quickly and does a good job of making coverage reads in his drops. Surveys the field very well. Possesses powerful arm strength when he needs it. Can drive the ball downfield. Is an accurate deep ball passer. Will fit the ball into tight spots. Shows good zip on the deep out route and can make all the throws. Has adequate-to-good touch and timing. He does a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly on underneath routes. Shows good ball skills on playfakes. Will sell his fakes and does a good job of seeing them through. Has ability to read defenses and spot coverages pre-snap. He's a fine athlete for his size, but he lacks great initial quickness or change-of-direction skills. He tends to build speed as he goes and will have some trouble avoiding the rush if it requires him to make a swift, quick move out of his set. He will take some risks with the ball because of the confidence in his arm strength, must become more patient and disciplined. Blackman is a guy with loads of physical tools and upside to work with and he has a high ceiling for development. Excellent prospect.
